Wangpu Map Poster
Wangpu lies in eastern Gansu Province, in the loess country of northwestern China. This is a landscape built from wind-blown silt deposited over a very long period, then carved by water into deep gullies, rounded hills and steep valleys. Towns here tend to gather along valley floors, where the ground is flattest and roads can pass through.
Wangpu follows the pattern common to settlements in this terrain: a built-up strip along the lowest ground, with a main road running through it and smaller lanes branching toward the slopes. Around it, the hillsides are marked by the curving lines of terraced fields, cut into the loess to hold soil and water for farming.
