Wāshīm Map Poster & Print
Wāshīm is the headquarters of Washim district in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Historians identify it with ancient Vatsagulma, the seat of a branch of the Vakataka dynasty more than fifteen centuries ago. That history is not visible as monuments on the map, but it helps explain why the old town has a clear centre, with the rest of the town growing outward from it.
From above, the town forms an irregular cluster. Lanes in the older quarter bend and meet at odd angles, while newer neighbourhoods follow straighter roads towards the edges. Highways leave in several directions across the flat, farmed plateau. Temple tanks and small water bodies appear as quiet shapes within the built area.
