Paks lies on the right bank of the Danube in Tolna County, and the river shapes everything on its map. The town extends in a long band along the water, with main streets following the direction of the current and shorter streets climbing away from the bank. The Danube itself forms a broad, clean stroke down one side of the sheet.
The town is best known across Hungary as the site of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, the country's only nuclear power station, which lies south of the town along the river. Around the settlement, the flat agricultural land of the Great Hungarian Plain spreads out in wide fields.
A Paks map poster frames the relationship between town and river in its simplest form: a strip of streets and a wide band of water beside it. In black and white, the Danube's gentle curve and the riverside islands and backwaters read clearly, giving the composition a strong edge and a calm open field.

Linear town plan
Principal streets run roughly parallel to the Danube, with cross streets leading inland, so Paks stretches out in a long, narrow shape.
River backwaters
Side channels, islands and wetlands along the Danube add softer, irregular shapes to the river's edge and contrast with the ordered streets.
