Rushden Map Poster & Print
Rushden lies in east Northamptonshire, on rising ground above the valley of the River Nene. On a map the town is a compact spread of streets around a long high street, with older terraced roads near the centre and later estates on the outer edges. To the west the land falls toward the river, where old gravel workings have become a chain of lakes.
For generations Rushden was a centre of the boot and shoe industry, with small factories and workshops set among the terraced houses. The novelist H. E. Bates was born here and drew on the town and its surroundings in his writing. Today the Rushden Lakes development sits beside the lakes on the Nene valley floor.
A Rushden map poster reflects that combination of an industrial market town and a watery valley landscape. The regular terraces, the line of the high street and the scattered shapes of the lakes combine into a composition that is both orderly and organic, with the river valley giving the map a strong sense of direction.

The high street
A long high street runs through the heart of the town, forming the spine from which the surrounding residential roads branch out.
