The Surma River
The broad, meandering Surma sweeps along the town, its curves giving the map a strong central line that the streets and landing ghats cling to.

Sunāmganj Map Poster & Print
Sunāmganj stands on the banks of the Surma River in northeastern Bangladesh, a short distance south of the Indian state of Meghalaya. The town is compact, with its streets pressed close to the riverbank and its roads running out across low, flat land. On a map the Surma is the defining line, looping past the town in broad meanders.
The surrounding district is known for its haors, shallow bowl-shaped wetlands that fill during the monsoon and turn the landscape into a sheet of water dotted with village islands. Tanguar Haor, a protected wetland of international importance, lies in the same district. The region is also associated with Hason Raja, the mystic poet whose songs are still sung across Bengal.
A Sunāmganj map poster captures a place shaped by water more than by roads. The print shows the town's tight core pressed against the river, with channels and low wetland ground reaching toward the edges of the frame. It is a calm, spacious composition, quite unlike the crowded grids of larger Bangladeshi cities.

Haor country
Around the town lie haors, low basins that flood each monsoon; on a map they appear as open spaces laced with small channels and scattered settlements.
Border hills
To the north the land rises abruptly into the Meghalaya hills across the Indian border, a contrast of flat plain and steep slope within a short distance.
