The Oria bends
The river curves through the middle of town with the old quarter tight against it, so water, bridges and historic streets all appear together at the centre of the map.

Tolosa lies in the Oria valley in the province of Gipuzkoa, where the river winds along a narrow valley floor between wooded slopes. The town stays close to the water. From above you can trace the old quarter on the bank, the bridges that join the two sides and the newer blocks that spread up the valley wherever the ground allows.
For a short time in the nineteenth century Tolosa was the capital of Gipuzkoa, and its compact centre still reflects that civic role, with squares and arcaded streets near the river. Today the town is known across Spain for its beans, its carnival and a long-running Saturday market held in the heart of the old town.
On a Tolosa map poster the river becomes the organising line. Road and rail follow the valley, the historic core forms a dense knot on the bend, and the hills leave broad pale margins that frame the whole composition. The shape is strong and narrow, and it works especially well in a vertical format.

Valley corridor
Road and railway run close together along the valley floor beside the Oria, giving the poster long parallel lines from one end of town to the other.
Hillside margins
Steep wooded slopes rise on both sides and keep the built area narrow. The open space they leave around the streets gives the print its calm, framed look.
