Tulle Map Poster & Print

Tulle, the prefecture of Corrèze, is one of the most distinctive town shapes in central France. The town follows the steep, narrow valley of the Corrèze river for several kilometres. On the map it is a long ribbon: quays and main streets run beside the water, and smaller lanes and stairways climb the hillsides on both sides.

The town gave its name to tulle, the fine net fabric linked to its lace-making history. Tulle is also known for accordions. The Maugein workshop has made them here for generations, and the town hosts an accordion festival. The Cathedral of Notre-Dame, with its tall spire, stands in the old quarter near the river.

A Tulle map poster shows the valley's pressure on the town clearly. Everything is drawn along the river's bends, with bridges linking the two banks and roads zigzagging up the slopes. The result is long and linear, very different from a round historic centre, and works well in a tall frame.

01

Corrèze valley

The river winds through a steep, narrow valley, and the whole town stretches along its course, giving the map a ribbon-like shape.

02

Old quarter and cathedral

The historic centre sits close to the river around the cathedral, where the densest and most irregular streets of the town are found.

03

Hillside lanes

Streets and stairways climb from the valley floor in tight switchbacks, adding folded, looping lines on both sides of the river.
