Thermal hotel district
Large rectangular plots with pools and gardens break up the street grid, giving the centre an unusually open, spacious texture compared with the tighter historic towns elsewhere in the Veneto.

The map
Abano Terme Map Poster & Print
Abano Terme sits on the plain a short distance southwest of Padua. On the map it reads as a compact grid of streets thickening around a central pedestrian axis, loosened at the edges by large hotel plots. Each plot carries its own garden and pool, so the town looks built around water in a way few places its size do.
The hot springs have been used since Roman times, and the town's shape still follows that use. Spa hotels line the main avenues in long rows, parks fill the gaps between them, and the network of smaller residential streets feels secondary. To the south, Abano merges almost seamlessly with neighbouring Montegrotto Terme, forming one continuous thermal district.
An Abano Terme map poster captures the point where the level Po plain meets the first rise of the Euganean Hills. The hills are volcanic in origin and sit just beyond the western edge of town, so the composition moves from dense urban fabric to scattered roads climbing into open, rounded ground.

Euganean Hills edge
West of the town the roads begin to curve and thin out as the volcanic Euganean Hills rise, a clear change in line quality that anchors one side of the composition.
Link with Montegrotto
Abano and Montegrotto Terme meet along the southern side of town, and the built-up area runs between them with barely a pause, a continuous band of spa streets.
