The map
Ahuachapán Map Poster & Print
Ahuachapán is the capital of the department of the same name in the far west of El Salvador, close to the border with Guatemala. The town sits on high ground, and its centre follows the regular grid of blocks common to Spanish colonial towns, organised around a central plaza and church.
The area is known for its volcanic activity. The Ahuachapán geothermal field, with its steaming vents known locally as ausoles, has been used to generate electricity for decades. The town is also a starting point for the Ruta de las Flores, a scenic road through coffee-growing highlands and small mountain towns.
An Ahuachapán map poster captures the square blocks of the centre and the way they give way to winding roads as the terrain rises into the surrounding hills. The contrast between orderly grid and irregular slope gives the design its character.

Geothermal land
Near the town, the geothermal field and its steaming ausoles mark an active volcanic landscape that has shaped both the terrain and the local economy.
Road to the hills
Roads leaving the grid curve into the highlands toward the Ruta de las Flores, adding softer lines around the straight streets of the centre.
