Arida River mouth
The river crosses the plain in a broad final curve before meeting the Kii Channel. Bridges cross it at intervals, and the street pattern follows it closely.

The map
Arida Map Poster & Print
Arida lies on the western coast of Wakayama Prefecture, where the Arida River widens and runs into the Kii Channel. From above, the town fills the low ground near the river mouth. Streets follow the banks and the shoreline, and the land quickly rises into steep hills on either side. The flat part is narrow, so the built-up area stays tight between water and slope.
The hills are the reason people know the name. Arida mandarins, sold across Japan as Arida mikan, grow on terraced slopes that climb the valley sides. At map scale the terraces show up as fine contour-like bands above the houses. Along the coast, harbour basins and industrial ground make a harder, straighter line where the town meets the sea.
A black-and-white rendering suits this layered landscape: a curved river, a ragged coastline and closely stacked hillside lines around a small grid of lanes. The Arida map poster keeps each layer distinct, so the river valley, the town and the orchard slopes can be read at a glance without colour. It works well as a quiet, detailed piece in a narrow frame.

Citrus terraces
Steep slopes above the town are cut into terraces for the mandarin orchards the area is known for. On the map they appear as dense, parallel lines wrapping the hills.
Working waterfront
Along the coast, straight quays, harbour basins and large industrial plots give the shoreline a geometric edge, in contrast with the irregular hills behind.
