Ravine corridors
Green gullies wind between the neighbourhoods, leaving long unbuilt strips. They split the street grid into separate fingers of development along the ridges.

The map
Armenia Map Poster & Print
Armenia is the capital of Quindío, one of the departments at the heart of Colombia's coffee-growing region. Founded in 1889, it sits on a raised plateau in the Central Cordillera, and the land around it is folded into hills and ravines. On a map, the city's regular grid bends and breaks wherever a stream valley cuts through.
Armenia was nicknamed Ciudad Milagro for its fast early growth. An earthquake in January 1999 badly damaged the city, and much of the centre was rebuilt in the years that followed. Today the Plaza de Bolívar, the modernist cathedral and the main shopping streets form its core.
Beyond the city limits are coffee farms that belong to the UNESCO-listed Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia. An Armenia map poster shows a city shaped by its terrain, with dense central blocks, green ravines between the neighbourhoods and roads winding out into the hills.

Rebuilt centre
The central blocks around the Plaza de Bolívar follow a tight grid, much of it rebuilt after 1999. They form the densest part of the poster.
Coffee hills
Outside the city, roads wind through rolling farmland toward nearby towns, hinting at the coffee landscape that surrounds Armenia on every side.
