The Lorze plain
Baar spreads across the flat valley floor of the Lorze, giving its street pattern a relaxed, open quality that is unusual among towns in central Switzerland.

The map
Baar Map Poster & Print
Baar lies in the canton of Zug in central Switzerland, directly north of the town of Zug, and the two settlements almost meet on the map. Baar sits on a broad, level plain shaped by the Lorze river, so its streets spread out more freely than in many Swiss towns hemmed in by mountains. Railway lines and main roads cross the plain, linking it to Zug and to Zurich beyond.
To the east the land climbs into forested hills, and the Lorze leaves the plain through a gorge that is home to the Höllgrotten, a well-known set of limestone caves. The town has also become a base for several large international companies, which shows on the map as larger commercial blocks among the older village streets and residential quarters.
A Baar map poster captures this mix of compact old centre, newer neighbourhoods and open farmland at the edges. With the river running across it and the hills closing in on one side, the composition feels balanced, a quiet portrait of a place that has grown steadily while keeping a clear shape.

Höllgrotten gorge
East of town the Lorze runs through a wooded gorge, where the Höllgrotten caves draw visitors; on the map the river's narrow course cuts sharply into the hills.
Rail and road links
Railway lines and main roads cross Baar on their way between Zug and Zurich, drawing firm lines through the town and tying it to the wider region.
