Water in every direction
Ponds, tanks and river channels are spread across the whole frame. Rendered as flat shapes, they give the map a scattered texture that changes with every section of the surrounding plain.

The map
Bājitpur Map Poster & Print
Bājitpur is an upazila town in Kishoreganj District, in the Dhaka Division of Bangladesh, home to around thirty-five thousand people. From above it is a small, dense core of lanes and rooftops with a few main roads running out of it. Around the town the map opens into flat, low-lying country, where fields, embankments and water meet with no hard edge between them.
This is the edge of the haor country of northeastern Bangladesh, a basin of shallow wetlands that fill during the monsoon and shrink in the dry months. On a Bājitpur map poster that landscape shows up as scattered ponds, winding river channels and the long, straight lines of raised roads and embankments built to stay above the water. Villages sit on higher ground, so they appear as clusters strung along those lines.
The town is also known as the home of Jahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital, a large institution that draws patients and students from across the surrounding districts. Its grounds add a planned block of buildings and open space to a street pattern that otherwise grew up informally. In black and white, the contrast between that ordered block and the looser town around it reads clearly.

Roads on embankments
In low wetland country the main roads are raised, so they run as long, clean lines across open ground. On the poster they act as the frame's strongest strokes, linking the town to the villages around it.
A small, dense centre
The town core is a tight knot of short lanes and closely packed buildings. It forms the darkest part of the composition, surrounded by the lighter, open floodplain beyond.

Why Bājitpur
A map that means something
For people from Bājitpur, or anyone who studied or worked at the medical college, this map shows a specific place: the roads they travelled, the water that came up each monsoon and the town at the middle of it all. It also suits people with family roots in Kishoreganj who now live far away.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a hometown, a graduation year or a family name, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the soft wetland shapes, while Noir brings out the lines of the roads.
