For generations farmers have worked it into terraces, and those terraces give the map its most striking quality.
The town sits where the ground is flatter, along a valley floor. Its streets and blocks are compact and follow the valley's direction. Roads leaving the town rise onto the surrounding hills in winding lines. Beyond the built-up area, the map becomes almost pure texture: branching gullies and stepped terraced slopes.
