Bihtā lies west of Patna in Bihar, on the flat plain near the Son river, not far from where it joins the Ganges. On a map, the older town is a dense cluster of lanes around the railway and main road. In recent years the town has become known as the home of the Indian Institute of Technology Patna, whose campus was built here.
