Bondo sits on the Uele River in the Bas-Uele province of northern DR Congo. From above, the river is the defining feature: a broad, curving band with the town arranged along one bank. The Uele has long been a route for trade and travel in this part of Central Africa, and Bondo developed as an administrative and market centre along it.
