Paraopeba River
The river curves through the valley beside the town, a soft irregular line that anchors the composition and explains why the main streets run where they do.

The map
Brumadinho Map Poster & Print
Seen from above, Brumadinho is less a grid than a set of streets following the valley floor. The Paraopeba River winds past the town, and roads climb out of it in every direction toward the ridges of the Quadrilátero Ferrífero, the iron-ore belt southwest of Belo Horizonte. Built-up blocks thin quickly into rural roads, estates and the long, looping tracks that follow the contours of the hills.
The municipality is known worldwide for Inhotim, an open-air contemporary art museum and botanical garden whose pavilions sit among landscaped lakes and forest. It is also remembered for the 2019 collapse of a mining tailings dam at Córrego do Feijão, one of the worst industrial disasters in Brazilian history. Both are part of how people now think of the name, and both are written into the land around the town.
A Brumadinho map poster shows that tension quietly: a compact centre, a river bending through it, and a network of roads that gives way to steep, uneven ground. In black and white, the hills show up in the way the streets avoid them, curving and doubling back rather than running straight. It is a portrait of a town shaped by its terrain first and its planners second.

Contour-led roads
Outside the centre, roads follow the slopes of the iron-ore ridges, looping and switching back, which gives the edges of the poster an organic, hand-drawn feel.
Inhotim grounds
The art park's paths, lakes and gardens form a distinct, finely drawn pocket in the landscape, quite unlike the ordinary street pattern of the town.

Why Brumadinho
A map that means something
For people from Brumadinho, or those who have visited Inhotim, the map is a way to hold on to a place that means more than its size suggests. Some hang it as a quiet act of remembrance, others as a reminder of a trip among the hills of Minas Gerais.
You can change the title and subtitle, add a date or keep the coordinates line, and pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital HD files cost $9, or you can order a matte print, with or without a wooden frame.
