The map
Bushenge Map Poster & Print
Bushenge sits in the hills of Rwanda's Western Province, above the eastern shore of Lake Kivu. From above there is no grid here. Roads follow ridgelines and wrap around the contours, so the street pattern looks like thread laid loosely over folded ground. Where the slopes flatten out, buildings gather into a small centre, then thin out again into scattered plots and farmland.
The region around Bushenge is known for its steep, green hillsides and its closeness to the lake, which marks the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
