From above, the town is a dense cluster of short blocks surrounded by open scrubland and farm tracks. The streets run in loose grids that shift direction from one district to the next.
The clearest feature on the map is the Açude Grande, a reservoir right beside the centre. Its irregular shoreline gives the urban fabric a soft edge that you rarely see in inland towns. Cajazeiras is often called the town that taught Paraíba to read. The name comes from the school founded there in the nineteenth century by Padre Inácio de Sousa Rolim, which drew students from across the region.
