The map
Campo Formoso Map Poster & Print
Campo Formoso lies in the north of Bahia, in the semi-arid backlands known as the sertão, at the edge of a range of hills that rise above the surrounding plains. The town has a regular grid of streets around its central squares, extending outward in newer blocks, with roads leaving towards the scattered villages of a very large municipality.
The hills give the municipality its fame. They contain deposits of emeralds, mined in the Carnaíba area, as well as chromite. Beneath them lie some of the longest caves in South America, including Toca da Boa Vista, a limestone system that extends for many kilometres underground.
A Campo Formoso map poster centres on the town, where the grid is clear and compact, surrounded by a mostly open landscape crossed by rural roads. The contrast between the dense centre and the spare surroundings reflects life in the sertão, where settlements are few and far apart.

Why Campo Formoso
A map that means something
Campo Formoso suits people from northern Bahia, those connected to its mining communities and cave explorers who know the region from below as well as above. The open sertão around the grid gives the map a clean, spacious composition.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be adjusted to your own wording. Sand is a natural fit for the dry landscape, while Noir and Classic black and white make the compact town grid stand out.
