Carcar lies on the eastern coast of southern Cebu, south of Cebu City. From above, the town centre is organised around a rotunda where main roads meet, with the church and plaza on higher ground nearby. Carcar is known as a heritage city for its Spanish-era church, dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, and for its old ancestral houses. It is also known in the Philippines for its shoemaking and for chicharon, a local food specialty.
