Chengzhong, whose name simply means city centre, is the central urban district of a county-level city in Hubei Province, on low ground northwest of Wuhan. The surrounding landscape belongs to the wide plains of central Hubei, where rivers, ponds and irrigation channels divide the land into fields. From above, the town is a dense cluster of streets set within that watery pattern.
Like many Chinese city centres, it pairs an older core of narrower streets with newer districts of broader, straighter roads and large housing compounds.
