Cuemba is in Bié province, on the high central plateau of Angola, in the eastern part of the province. The land here is broad and open, with grassland, woodland and river valleys. The town is small, and on the map its streets look like a light cluster set into a very large landscape.
The Benguela Railway, which runs across Angola from the Atlantic port of Lobito towards the eastern border, passes through the area and has a stop at Cuemba.
