Curchorem sits in the interior of South Goa, away from the coastal beaches. Together with neighbouring Cacora it forms a single municipal area. From above, a compact commercial centre gathers near the main roads, and residential lanes extend into the surrounding green country. The railway runs close by, and nearby river channels add curving lines through the low ground.
The town grew as a trading and transport point for Goa's inland areas and was historically linked to the movement of goods between the hinterland and the coast. The surrounding landscape of paddy fields, cashew and wooded slopes looks very different from the Goa most visitors know. It is a working, residential side of the state.
