Ridge-top town
The main part of the town runs along the crest of a narrow ridge. Its elongated form follows the high ground, and the slopes drop away on either side.

The map
Dārjiling Map Poster & Print
Darjeeling sits on a narrow ridge at about 2,000 metres in the eastern Himalaya of West Bengal, and its map is shaped by slope. The town stretches along the ridge line. Roads zigzag down the hillsides in hairpin bends, and paths and steps connect the levels in between. Around it, tea estates cover the hills in wide terraces cut by streams.
The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a narrow-gauge line recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, loops and zigzags up to the town, and its track can be traced on the map. The town is famous for its tea and for views of Kangchenjunga, the world's third-highest mountain, which rises to the north on clear days.
A Dārjiling map poster shows a town completely determined by its terrain. There are no grids here. Every road bends to follow the contours, and the result is a dense, looping pattern that looks almost hand-drawn. In black and white, the switchbacks and ridge line make a striking and unusual composition.

Switchback roads
Roads descend the hillsides in tight hairpin bends. On the poster they form layered zigzags that show how steep the terrain is.
Toy train line
The narrow-gauge Darjeeling Himalayan Railway climbs to the town with loops and reversing sections. Its track weaves through the streets as a thin, continuous line.

Why Dārjiling
A map that means something
Darjeeling holds a special place for those who studied at its schools, spent summers in the hills or simply love its tea. A map of its winding roads carries that memory, and the pattern is compelling even for those who have never been there.
