The map
Dnipro Map Poster & Print
Dnipro is defined by its river. The Dnieper runs through the city in a wide curve, several hundred metres across in places, and the built-up area spreads along both banks. From above, the water takes up a large share of the map, crossed by a handful of long bridges. Islands and sandbars sit in the channel.
The city was founded in the late eighteenth century as Yekaterinoslav. The historic centre lies on the right bank, where a main avenue runs parallel to the river along the high ground. Streets climb up from the long riverside embankment. On the left bank, the districts are flatter and more spread out, with industrial areas and housing estates.
Monastyrskyi Island, near the centre, is a green park reached by a footbridge. Dnipro became a major centre of Soviet rocket and aerospace industry. A Dnipro map poster shows a city stretched along great water, with bridges stitching its two halves together.

Right-bank centre
The historic core sits above the river, with a main avenue running along the slope. Streets drop from it down towards the embankment.
Bridges and islands
Long bridges span the river, and islands such as Monastyrskyi break up the water. They add fine detail across the open channel.
