The map
Dongyang Map Poster & Print
Dongyang lies in the Jinhua region of central Zhejiang, in a basin framed by low hills. The Dongyang River flows westward through the city, and the urban area has grown along both of its banks, with bridges tying the older core to newer districts. On a map the river is the clear spine, while ridges and valleys close in around the edges of the built-up area.
The city is known across China for Dongyang woodcarving, a centuries-old craft of carved panels, furniture and architectural details. Dongyang has also long been associated with builders and craftsmen. The town of Hengdian, within its boundaries, is home to one of the largest film studio complexes in the country, where many period dramas are shot.
A Dongyang map poster shows how a river city fits into hilly terrain: dense blocks close to the water, roads following the valleys outward, and a looser pattern of villages and workshops where the land opens up. It is a quieter subject than a coastal metropolis, and its shape rewards a closer look.

Hill-framed basin
Low hills rise on several sides of the urban area. Where they begin, the street pattern thins out and roads start to follow the contours of the valleys.
Old and new districts
The tighter streets of the older centre sit close to the river, while newer districts with wider roads and larger blocks spread out beyond them.
