Fardīs sits just southwest of Karaj, in the urban belt that runs west from Tehran along the foot of the Alborz mountains. It grew quickly over a few decades as a residential town for people working in the region. The regularity comes from rapid, plot-by-plot development rather than a monumental master plan. Main avenues run through the town and link it to Karaj and the highways toward the capital.
