The map
Fleurus Map Poster & Print
Fleurus lies in the province of Hainaut in southern Belgium, just northeast of Charleroi, on the gently rolling farmland of the Brabant plateau. From above, the town centre is a compact knot of older streets, with roads fanning out to surrounding villages that now belong to the same municipality. Large open fields fill much of the space between them.
The name is known across Europe for the battles fought here, most famously in 1690 and 1794. At the 1794 battle, the French army used an observation balloon, one of the first times aircraft were used in war. A Fleurus map poster shows the open ground that made this area a recurring battlefield for armies crossing the Low Countries.
Today the town combines residential streets, industrial sites and farmland, with motorways and rail lines passing close by. The older lanes of the centre contrast with the long, straight roads across the plateau. Drawn in black and white, the villages scattered across the fields give the map a loose, distributed composition rather than a single dense core.

Open plateau
Wide, gently rolling fields surround the town. The same open ground drew armies here for centuries, and on the map it creates generous empty space.
Scattered villages
Several former villages belong to the municipality, each with its own small street cluster. Together they give the poster a pattern of linked settlements.

Why Fleurus
A map that means something
A Fleurus map suits someone with roots in Hainaut or anyone interested in the history of the Low Countries, where these fields have mattered for centuries. It works well in a study or living room as a restrained piece of local history.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a name or date, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles, such as Noir or Paper, as HD digital files without a watermark or as a matte print shipped from a nearby partner.
