The map
Fujiidera Map Poster & Print
Fujiidera is a small, densely built city in the southeast of the Osaka plain. From above most of its area is a fine mesh of residential streets and railway lines, but scattered among them are large, clearly defined green shapes: the kofun, burial mounds of ancient rulers, some of them surrounded by moats in their characteristic keyhole form.
These mounds are part of the Furuichi group, which together with the Mozu group in neighbouring Sakai was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. The city takes its name from Fujii-dera, a temple known for its seated thousand-armed Kannon, a National Treasure.
A Fujiidera map poster shows this layered history clearly. The dense street pattern fills the sheet, the kofun appear as calm geometric islands, and the Ishikawa and Yamato rivers mark the edges of the city.

Fujii-dera temple
The temple that gave the city its name sits in the centre, a small compound in the street grid, known for its seated thousand-armed Kannon.
Rivers at the edge
The Ishikawa and Yamato rivers flow near the city's edge, and their wide channels frame the compact grid of streets on the map.

Why Fujiidera
A map that means something
Fujiidera is home for many people who commute to central Osaka, and a place of study for those interested in Japan's early history. A map showing the street grid and ancient mounds together is quietly unusual.
You can set a title, a subtitle with a date and your own coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download print-ready files for $9 or order a matte printed poster.
