The map
Gap Map Poster & Print
Gap sits in a broad basin in the Southern Alps and serves as the prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes. It is often described as the highest prefecture town in France, at around 735 metres. The small Luye river crosses the town, and the Durance valley lies a short distance away. On a map, a dense, rounded old centre sits in the middle of a basin ringed by mountain roads.
The historic core is a knot of narrow, curving streets around the cathedral, with the later town spreading out on all sides. Main routes head in several directions toward the passes and valleys of the region. Gap has been a regular stop on the Tour de France and is a base for skiing, walking and cycling in the surrounding mountains.
A Gap map poster renders this mountain town with clarity. The compact centre, the ring of boulevards, the roads switching back up the slopes and the open land of the basin all become one clean drawing. It suits anyone who knows the town as a gateway to the Alps.

Routes to the passes
Roads leave the basin in several directions toward the valleys and cols of the Hautes-Alpes. They extend like spokes toward the edges of the frame.
