The Bergen Line
The railway between Oslo and Bergen passes directly through Geilo. On the map it is a steady, gently curving line, and the village's streets and station gather along it.

The map
Geilo Map Poster & Print
Geilo lies in Hallingdal in Buskerud, at the edge of the high country that leads up to the Hardangervidda plateau. The village is small and easy to read on a map. The houses gather close to the railway station, a lake stretches beside them, and the ski slopes climb the hills above. From above you can see how little flat land there is between the water and the mountain.
The Bergen Line has run through Geilo for more than a century, and the railway explains the village's shape. Streets grow outward from the station in a loose network, with cabins and hotels spreading onto the hillsides. Geilo is one of Norway's longest-established winter resorts. It is known for cross-country trails as much as for its lifts, and in good snow years the trails run out across the open ground.
A Geilo map poster shows a place with a clear order. The railway line cuts across the frame, the lake is a pale open shape, and the village streets gather between them. It is a small drawing with a lot of empty space, which suits the calm of a Norwegian mountain village in winter.

The lakeside
A lake lies beside the village. It shows as a broad open shape against the fine lines of streets and paths, and it gives the composition a calm, empty centre.
Slopes above town
Ski areas rise on the hills close to the village. Their access roads and scattered cabins thin out upward, and the map shows the land changing from settlement to open mountain.

Why Geilo
A map that means something
Geilo is often a family place, returned to year after year by train from Oslo or Bergen. A poster of its streets and lake keeps those winters in view, and it can mark a first ski trip or a long tradition.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be changed, for example to add a family name or the year. Classic black & white keeps it crisp, Blueprint suits the railway geometry, and Noir, Paper and Sand give three other moods. Download it in HD for $9 or order a print.
