The land around it is wide, dry steppe, and the town appears on the map as a compact built-up area surrounded by open ground. The town grew along the main road linking Algiers with Djelfa and the south. That road passes through as a strong north–south line, and the blocks on either side are arranged in a fairly regular pattern.
