Canal-side axis
The historic centre follows straight waterways dug for peat transport, giving the heart of town a linear, almost ruled shape that reads clearly in black and white.

The map
Heerenveen Map Poster & Print
Heerenveen grew in the seventeenth century as a peat-digging settlement, and its name, roughly the lords' fen, still describes the landscape that shaped it. On the map that origin shows in long, straight waterways and streets laid out along them, a linear logic very different from the circular cores of older Dutch towns. The old canal known as the Heeresloot runs through the centre as the town's founding axis.
Around this core the town spreads in orderly residential districts, parks and sports grounds, all set against the flat Frisian countryside. The A7 and A32 motorways meet on the edge of town, and their broad interchange forms a bold geometric shape against the finer grain of streets, while polder ditches stretch outward in parallel lines toward the horizon.
Heerenveen is known well beyond Friesland for Thialf, the indoor speed skating stadium that has hosted many international championships, and for its football club. A Heerenveen map poster frames both the old canal town and the modern sports and road infrastructure around it, a portrait of a place where Frisian water management and national sport sit side by side.

Thialf and sports park
The large footprint of the speed skating stadium and neighbouring sports grounds forms a distinct block on the map, instantly recognisable to skating fans.
Motorway interchange
Where the A7 and A32 cross, curving ramps create a strong graphic knot that contrasts neatly with the polder ditches running straight across the surrounding land.

Why Heerenveen
A map that means something
Skaters, football supporters and people who grew up in the town all have their own reasons to keep Heerenveen on the wall. The canals, the stadium and the flat, gridded land around it make a calm, balanced composition in any room.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a race date or club season, and the coordinates line, then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files are $9, and printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries.
