Valley-floor streets
The main streets follow the valley floor and the watercourse running through it, so the densest part of town forms a narrow ribbon instead of a round centre.

The map
Hizan Map Poster & Print
Hizan is a district town in Bitlis Province, in the mountains of eastern Turkey south of Lake Van. On a map it looks nothing like a lowland town. Buildings gather along a narrow valley, and the streets bend with the terrain, climbing in switchbacks or hugging the stream at the bottom. Open mountainside covers most of the frame.
The surrounding ranges belong to the Southeastern Taurus system, a region of high ridges, deep valleys and long winters. Roads into Hizan wind for kilometres to cross the relief, and villages sit on terraces and spurs wherever the ground flattens out enough to build on.
A Hizan map poster shows a place defined by its terrain. The street pattern is short and irregular, a few main roads with lanes branching off at odd angles, and that shape comes directly from the mountains. Printed in black and white, it reads almost like a contour study, with the town as a small dense mark among the lines.

Switchback approach roads
Roads climbing out of Hizan fold back on themselves to handle steep gradients, and their zigzag lines are among the most striking shapes on the map.
Mountain villages
Small settlements are scattered across nearby slopes and linked by thin winding tracks, showing how people have made use of every workable piece of level ground.

Why Hizan
A map that means something
Hizan is a place people leave for cities and still speak of with attachment. A map of its streets and valley keeps that geography close, whether it marks where you were born or somewhere your family still returns in summer.
You can change the title and subtitle, for example adding a date or a village name, and pick one of five styles. Noir and Sand suit the mountain terrain well, and Classic black & white keeps the line work crisp.
