Paraíba do Sul river
The river winds through the valley beside the town, its meanders forming the softest line on the map and running parallel to the highway for much of the way.

The map
Itatiaia Map Poster & Print
Itatiaia is a municipality in the southwest of Rio de Janeiro state, set in the Paraíba do Sul valley at the foot of the Serra da Mantiqueira. The river runs through the lowland along the town, and the Presidente Dutra highway, the main route between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, passes alongside it, so the map combines a winding waterway with a firm, straight transport corridor.
To the north, the land rises steeply into the mountains of Itatiaia National Park, created in 1937 as Brazil's first national park. Its high plateau includes the Pico das Agulhas Negras, one of the highest peaks in the country. Within the municipality lies Penedo, a district founded by Finnish immigrants in 1929, known for its chalet-style houses, forested lanes and small hotels.
An Itatiaia map poster captures the change from valley to mountain. The town's streets and the highway sit low and orderly beside the river, while roads toward the park climb in tight curves and thin out as the forest takes over. In black and white the contrast between dense lowland and open, rising slopes gives the image depth and direction.

Via Dutra corridor
Brazil's main Rio–São Paulo highway crosses the municipality in a long, steady line, a strong horizontal element beside the river and the town centre.
Road to the park
Roads into the Mantiqueira climb from the valley in sharp bends toward Itatiaia National Park, thinning into scattered lines as the mountains and forest take over the frame.

Why Itatiaia
A map that means something
Itatiaia maps are hung by hikers who have climbed toward Agulhas Negras, by families who spend weekends in Penedo, and by people raised in the valley. The pull between river, highway and mountains gives the poster unusual movement.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a trail, a guesthouse or a date, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, as HD files for $9 or a printed poster in a wooden frame.
