Granite ridges
Rocky hills rise within the city, including the ridge crowned by Madan Mahal fort. The street network flows around them and leaves distinctive open patches.

The map
Jabalpur Map Poster & Print
Jabalpur lies in the heart of Madhya Pradesh, close to the northern bank of the Narmada, one of India's major rivers. The ground here is rockier than much of the surrounding plain, and granite outcrops break up the street network. Older bazaar quarters form a dense core, and the cantonment, set up in the British era, stretches out in wide roads, open grounds and larger blocks.
On a Jabalpur map poster, hills and water bodies give the composition unusual variety. Madan Mahal, a small fort built on a rocky ridge, looks over the city, and nearby stands the famous balancing rock, a granite boulder that has stayed in place through earthquakes. Reservoirs and tanks appear as smooth shapes among the streets, and rail lines cross the urban area in long curves.
Just outside the city at Bhedaghat, the Narmada flows through a gorge of white marble cliffs and drops at the Dhuandhar Falls, one of the region's best-known sights. Jabalpur is also an important military and ordnance centre and the seat of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Its map shows a city shaped by rock, water and the lasting footprint of the cantonment.

Cantonment layout
The cantonment's broad roads and spacious plots form a looser, more regular pattern that contrasts sharply with the dense lanes of the old bazaar area.
Tanks and reservoirs
Several lakes and water tanks lie among the neighbourhoods. Their smooth outlines provide calm pauses in the busy texture of the urban map.
