The map
Jianshui Map Poster & Print
Jianshui lies in a basin in southern Yunnan, in the Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and its old town is one of the best preserved in the province. On a map the historic core forms a compact, roughly rectangular area of tight lanes and courtyard houses, with the modern town spreading around it in wider streets and larger blocks.
The old east gate, Chaoyang Tower, dates from the late fourteenth century and still stands at the head of the main street. Nearby, the Confucian Temple, one of the largest in China, is set around a broad pond called Xuehai, the sea of learning. The Zhu Family Garden, a sprawling complex of courtyards, also lies within the old town.
Outside the town, the Double Dragon Bridge spans the meeting of two rivers with seventeen arches, and the area is known for its purple clay pottery. A Jianshui map poster shows the careful plan of an old administrative and scholarly town set in its green basin, with fields and villages around the edges.

Confucian Temple
The temple complex and its large pond form a distinctive rectangle of courtyards and water within the tight fabric of the old town.
Old town lanes
Narrow streets and courtyard houses create a fine-grained, dense pattern, sharply different from the broad roads of the newer districts outside.

Why Jianshui
A map that means something
Travellers who have walked Jianshui's lanes, eaten its grilled tofu or visited its temples often want something more lasting than a photograph. A map poster keeps the old town's layout in view at home, long after the trip.
Add your own title and subtitle, perhaps the dates of a journey, and personalise the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper and Sand suit the old town's character particularly well.
