Salt Range edge
Steep, eroded hills rise directly behind the town. On the poster they appear as open, empty space crossed by only a few winding roads and tracks.

The map
Khewra Map Poster & Print
Khewra lies in Jhelum district in Pakistan's Punjab, at the southern edge of the Salt Range, where the plain meets a line of steep, eroded hills. The town is compact, with streets gathered on the flat ground below the slopes. The map shows the contrast sharply: dense lanes on one side, bare folded terrain rising on the other.
The town is known for the Khewra Salt Mine, one of the oldest and largest in the world and the main source of the pink rock salt sold worldwide as Himalayan salt. A popular story credits its discovery to the horses of Alexander the Great's army, which were seen licking the rocks. Today the mine's tunnels are also open to visitors.
Above ground, the mine entrances, the rail line and the industrial buildings sit close to the town, while roads wind up into the range behind it. A Khewra map poster brings together the town, the works and the rugged hillside. It is a small place, but its name is known far beyond Pakistan because of the salt it produces.

Mine and works
The area around the mine entrance, with its buildings and access roads, forms a separate zone beside the residential streets and marks the industry the town grew around.
Compact town
Khewra's lanes are tightly packed on the level ground below the hills. The result is a small but detailed centre that holds up well even at larger print sizes.

Why Khewra
A map that means something
Visitors who have walked through the salt tunnels, and families whose work has been tied to the mine for generations, both have reasons to remember Khewra. A clean map of the town and its hills is an understated way to do that.
