The map
Kindia Map Poster & Print
Kindia lies about 135 kilometres north-east of Conakry, where the coastal lowlands give way to the hills that rise toward the Fouta Djallon plateau. The town sits in a valley below steep, forested heights. On a map its streets spread across the valley floor, with a denser core around the market and the administrative centre and looser neighbourhoods toward the slopes.
The main road from Conakry to the interior passes through Kindia, and so does the route of the old Conakry–Niger railway, one of the earliest lines in French West Africa. These corridors give the town its main axes, with smaller streets branching off into residential quarters and gardens. Where the hills close in, the street pattern stops and the contours take over.
The region is known for its fruit, especially bananas and pineapples, and for waterfalls in the nearby hills, the best known being the Voile de la Mariée, or Bride's Veil. A Kindia map poster captures a town at a threshold between coast and highlands. The roads lead inland, the valley holds the streets, and the green heights rise on every side.

Road and rail
The main road inland from Conakry and the route of the old railway both pass through Kindia. They form the long, straight axes of the town plan.
Market centre
The busiest streets cluster around the central market and administrative area. That is where the street grid is at its densest before thinning out toward the hills.
