The Chaliyar
The broad river sweeps past the town and gives the poster its boldest form, a long curve that organises the roads and settlement around it.

The map
Kizhuparamba Map Poster & Print
Kizhuparamba is in the Malappuram district of northern Kerala, on the banks of the Chaliyar, one of the longest rivers in the state. Like much of rural Kerala, it has no sharp edge between town and village. Houses spread out under tree cover along roads and lanes, and the settlement thins gradually into gardens, paddy fields and low hills.
The Chaliyar is the dominant feature of the map. It curves broadly past the area on its way to the Arabian Sea near Beypore, and roads follow its course before turning inland. Smaller streams and wetlands feed into it, while the higher ground around is laced with narrow lanes that wind between homesteads.
A Kizhuparamba map poster captures a pattern very typical of Kerala: a loose web of lanes rather than a grid, a wide river cutting through, and a settlement that seems to merge with its landscape. In black and white, the river becomes a strong curving shape and the network of small roads a fine, organic lace.

Dispersed homesteads
Instead of a dense centre, houses spread along roads and paths under the trees, creating an even scatter of short lines across the map.
Winding lanes
Narrow roads follow low hills and field edges, forming an irregular network characteristic of settlement across the Malabar region.

Why Kizhuparamba
A map that means something
Many families in Malappuram have members working in the Gulf states or in other parts of India, and a map of the home town is a simple, meaningful gift. It shows the river and the lanes exactly as they are, which is often what makes it moving.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose among five styles; Paper and Sand give a soft, warm look, while Noir makes the river stand out. Order the $9 HD files or a printed poster shipped from a print partner near you.
