Kuoyiqi lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, in one of the oases that line the southern rim of the Taklamakan Desert. On the map, the settlement is surrounded by cultivated fields laid out in a regular pattern, with irrigation channels and poplar-lined roads marking the edges of plots.
