Hillside estates
Public housing estates occupy terraced sites on the slope, and their large, distinct footprints give the map a blocky, stepped pattern unlike the flat grids of west Kowloon.

The map
Lam Tin Map Poster & Print
Lam Tin occupies a hillside in the Kwun Tong District of east Kowloon, and its map is shaped above all by gradient. Large public housing estates sit on platforms cut into the slope, joined by roads that switch back and forth as they climb. The result is a plan of big, separate blocks rather than a street grid, each estate a small world of towers, podiums and walkways.
The district grew rapidly from the 1960s as a resettlement area and was later rebuilt with the high-rise estates that define it today. Its position makes it a transport hinge: the Eastern Harbour Crossing comes ashore nearby, the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel heads east through the hills, and the MTR Kwun Tong line has a station here.
Above the estates, the slopes of Devil's Peak and the hills toward Tseung Kwan O stay green and open, and below, the old waterfront village of Lei Yue Mun faces the narrow eastern entrance to the harbour. A Lam Tin map poster sets all of this in one frame: dense housing, open hills and a slice of water.

Why Lam Tin
A map that means something
Lam Tin is home to a large community, and many people who grew up in its estates now live elsewhere. A map of the hillside, with the harbour at its edge, holds a very specific memory of Hong Kong that a skyline photograph cannot.
Add an estate name, a family name or a year in the subtitle and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand; Noir suits the density of the district well. Files come in six sizes for $9, or as a matte print.
