The map
Mansoûra Map Poster & Print
Mansoûra lies at the western edge of Tlemcen, on the plateau below the Tlemcen Mountains. On the map, modern streets and houses spread around a large enclosed area: the remains of the fortified city of Mansourah, whose walls can still be traced on the ground.
Mansourah was founded in the late 13th century by the Marinid sultans of Morocco as a camp during the long siege of Tlemcen. It grew into a walled city with its own mosque. The mosque's partly ruined minaret still stands and is the best-known monument in the area.
A Mansoûra map poster connects two eras. The long, angular lines of the medieval enclosure run through the composition, and the modern town's streets grow up around and within them. It is a map that invites a closer look.

The minaret
The ruined minaret of the Marinid mosque stands inside the old enclosure. It is one of the most important historic monuments around Tlemcen.
Tlemcen's edge
Mansoûra's streets merge with those of Tlemcen to the east. Together they form a continuous urban area at the foot of the mountains.
