The map
Mitsuke Map Poster & Print
Mitsuke is in the central part of Niigata Prefecture, on the broad Echigo Plain between the cities of Nagaoka and Sanjō. The land is low and flat, with well-watered rice paddies on every side. On a map, the built-up area forms a compact centre with a wide ring of rectangular fields around it.
The town has a long association with textiles and is particularly known in Japan for knitwear. On the map, that history is not visible, but the town's layout is: a core of dense streets, a river nearby and roads that run out across the fields toward the neighbouring cities. Winter in this region brings heavy snowfall, which shapes the look of the town for part of every year.
A Mitsuke map poster sets the town against the flat Niigata landscape. In black and white, the rice paddies turn into a regular pattern of rectangles, and the streets at the centre stand out as darker and more tightly packed. For anyone from Mitsuke or with family there, the drawing is a simple and exact portrait of home.

Compact town centre
Streets and buildings gather tightly at the core. The dark, dense centre stands out against the open, lighter plain around it.
Links across the plain
Roads leave the town in several directions toward Nagaoka and Sanjō. They are the long straight lines that connect Mitsuke with the rest of the Echigo Plain.

Why Mitsuke
A map that means something
Mitsuke is the kind of town people leave for work or study and still think of as home. A map of its streets and fields is an understated way to keep it close. It sits well in a small apartment in a big city, where the flat Niigata landscape feels far away.
Personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates, for example with a family name or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The files come in six sizes, and printed posters can be ordered with an optional wooden frame.
