Ring of lakes
Several lakes wrap around the old town, so the historic centre appears on the map as a compact hill surrounded almost entirely by water and shoreline paths.

The map
Mölln Map Poster & Print
Mölln is a small town in the Duchy of Lauenburg in Schleswig-Holstein, and its map is dominated by water. The medieval centre climbs a low hill crowned by the church of St. Nicholas, and around it lies a chain of lakes that give the town an almost island-like outline.
The Elbe–Lübeck Canal passes the town, following the course of the old Stecknitz Canal, one of the earliest summit canals in Europe, which once carried salt from Lüneburg to Lübeck. Mölln is also linked with Till Eulenspiegel, the prankster of German folklore, who according to tradition died here in 1350.
A Mölln map poster brings out the rounded shapes of the lakes, the tight streets of the old town and the long straight line of the canal. With woods and water on every side, it is one of the more graceful small-town maps in northern Germany.

Elbe–Lübeck Canal
The canal follows the route of the medieval Stecknitz Canal, part of the Old Salt Route, and runs as a long, straight line past the town.
Hilltop old town
Narrow streets climb toward St. Nicholas church at the top of the hill, forming a dense, irregular core that contrasts with the smooth lake edges.
