Morlaix lies in north-western Brittany, at the point where small rivers meet and continue as a tidal estuary toward the Bay of Morlaix. The town sits deep in a narrow valley, and on a map its streets squeeze along the valley floor before climbing the steep sides in winding lanes and stairways. The town's best-known structure is its two-level stone railway viaduct, built in the 1860s for the Paris–Brest line, which strides across the valley above the old centre.
