The map
Mtsensk Map Poster & Print
Mtsensk lies in Oryol oblast, south of Moscow, on the banks of the Zusha river. It is one of the older towns in central Russia, first mentioned in the chronicles in the twelfth century. From above, the old centre sits on high ground above the river valley, and newer districts spread out on both banks, linked by bridges.
The town is best known through literature. Nikolai Leskov's story Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, later the basis for Shostakovich's opera, carried its name around the world. Nearby is Spasskoye-Lutovinovo, the family estate of Ivan Turgenev, now a museum. The countryside around is wide and open, typical of the central Russian upland.
A Mtsensk map poster shows a town shaped by its river: an older core on the heights, streets that descend toward the water and newer blocks extending onto the plain. It suits people who grew up in the Oryol region and readers who know the town through Leskov and Turgenev.

Why Mtsensk
A map that means something
Mtsensk has a name many people know from books long before they ever see the town. A map poster connects that literary reputation with the real streets and river, and it works equally well as a personal keepsake or a bookish gift.
The title and subtitle can be changed, perhaps to add a quote or a family name. You can also add a date and edit the coordinates line. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
