Nāhan sits on a ridge in the Shivalik hills of southern Himachal Pradesh and is the headquarters of Sirmaur district. The town was founded in the seventeenth century as the capital of the princely state of Sirmaur, and it keeps a planned, orderly feel unusual among hill towns.
