Compact town grid
The centre is a dense, largely regular network of streets and courtyard houses, which gives the core of the map a tight, even texture from one edge of town to the other.

The map
Najafābād Map Poster & Print
Najafābād lies about 25 kilometres west of Isfahan, on the broad farming plain of the Zayanderud basin. From above, the town reads as a compact, fairly regular grid of streets and courtyard houses, surrounded by a patchwork of orchards and fields. Long main roads connect it east to Isfahan and west towards the mountains, and newer districts have grown up along them.
The town dates from the Safavid era and is traditionally linked with Shah Abbas I. Its name refers to the holy city of Najaf. Over the centuries it became one of the main towns of Isfahan province. It is known for farming, especially pomegranates, and for the traditional water channels that once carried water across the plain to its gardens.
A Najafābād map poster turns this layout into a crisp, even pattern. The tight blocks of the centre, the straight roads leading out and the geometric outlines of the orchards all read clearly in black and white. The result is restrained and almost textile-like. It suits a home far from Isfahan province as well as one close by.

Orchards and fields
Around the built-up area, orchards and irrigated fields form a quilt of rectangular plots. They soften the edges of the town where it meets the open plain.
Road to Isfahan
A main road runs east across the plain towards Isfahan. It is a strong straight line, and newer neighbourhoods and industry have grown along it in recent decades.
